7C Update (Winter Break Packets) for Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies

Hello Jr. Falcons,

We are rapidly approaching our Winter Break and I know that each of you are looking forward  two weeks of rest and spending time with your family. Each student will receive a packet of assignments to work on during the break. The packet will be due  on Tuesda, January 5, 2010. These activities will reinforce what has been learned in class this year. Have a happy and safe holiday seaason!

Math

We are studying the following standards in math:

M7N1. Students will understand the meaning of positive and negative rational

numbers and use them in computation.

M7A2. Students will understand and apply linear equations in one variable.

 

Element(s)-:

M7N1

a. Find the absolute value of a number and understand it as the distance from

zero on a number line.

b. Compare and order rational numbers, including repeating decimals.

c. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative rational numbers.

d. Solve problems using rational numbers.

M7A2.

a. Given a problem, define a variable, write an equation, solve the equation, and

interpret the solution.

b. Use the addition and multiplication properties of equality to solve one- and two step linear equations.

Social Studies

We are currently working on the following standards:

SS7G1The student will locate selected features of Africa.

a. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: the Sahara, savanna, and tropical rain forest, Congo River, Niger River, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria, Atlas Mountains and Kalahari Desert.

b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the countries of, Democratic Republic of the Congo (Zaire), Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sudan.

 SS7G2 The student will discuss environmental issues across the continent of Africa.

a. Explain how water pollution and the unequal distribution of water impacts irrigation, trade, industry, and drinking water.

b. Explain the relationship between poor soil and deforestation in Sub-Saharan Africa.

c. Explain the impact of desertification on the environment of Africa from the Sahel to the rainforest.
